hyperlinks

There are 2 kinds of hyperlinks, one that keeps your viewer inside your website and one that takes them to another website.  Here are the instructions for both.

Here's how to create an internal link.

Linking 2 pages in your Web Editor together is called an internal link.  Keeping the viewer inside your site. So, when your viewer clicks on the text or image it takes them to another page you have already created.

Here is how you can create an internal link.  This is also found in the Users Manual, under "helpful tips and tricks" / "Linking 2 pages together".

Open up the page editor and have your website open too.

Step 1

The first step is to create the page and "show" it on your website.  This is the page that you want to take your viewer to.   "Copy" the URL address at the top of the web page that is now showing on your site.

Step 2
Go back to your "page editor" where you are creating the word link.   Highlight something such as text or an image you want to have your viewer click on.  Then select the tool near the top of the page editor called "hyperlink tool" to open the hyperlink properties page.  On this page you will need to paste the URL address (you copied from your website) into the URL field (Ctrl+V).  You can also set the target here to determine if it will open in a new window or not. Be sure to click "OK" and then save your work in the page editor and your text should now be linked to the new page!

Your link will change colors, showing it was done correctly.  This will also alert your viewers that there is a link for them to click on. Click SAVE at the bottom of the page in the page editor to save your work.  You can now turn the page off that you copied the URL address from. In the Web Editor uncheck the green check mark in the box to be able to hide the page in the menu bar.

Another way to create a link - using a file in your File Manager (for example a PDF)

Open the page editor. Highlight some text or a graphic for your viewer to click on.  Click on the grey chain link icon in the tool bar.  The properties box will come up, click on the "browse" button to the right. Double click on the "documents" folder, find your file and click on it and press "ok".  "Save" your work in the page editor and view your website to see if the link is working.

Here's how to create an external link.

This will take your viewer outside of your website and link them to a different website.

Open up 2 browser windows. One for your Web Editor and one for your “link to” web page.  Copy the URL address that is at the top of the new page, that you want to take your viewer to.   Go into your Web Editor. Open up the "page editor" (the larger icon of the two) for the page you are working on.  Select (highlight) something such as text or an image you have inserted on the page and then click on the grey chain link icon  "hyperlink" at the top of the toolbar.  Wait for the properties box to come up and paste the URL address into the first field.  You can also use the "Target" drop down menu to have the website open up in a new window. Click OK. Click SAVE in the page editor to save your work.
