Copying a Word Document into your "page editor"

Using the copy and paste from a Word Doc.  The MS Word document will create a tremendous amount of excess code when pasting into another application. The code that is created is not standardized web format and is unique really to Word.  Because of that we suggest that you always do your preliminary work in Notepad as it does not create code behind the text.

When you copy and paste content from Microsoft Word, it attempts to preserve the formatting and adds all sorts of “ugly” formatting code into the editor.  Frequently this results in the page not displaying properly.   So, if you find that the formatting on the page is messed up or things are in the wrong location...it isn’t actually a layout issue or a HaloSites code issue but rather the formatting code from Microsoft Word is affecting the layout.
